The National Safety Council in the state of Florida declares June as the National Safety Month (NSM) each year. NSM’s goal is to educate and help prevent negligent behaviors that lead to preventable injuries and even death.
The 2013 theme is “Safety Starts with Me.” Studies have proven that if everyone takes ownership in their own safety, as well as the safety of their coworkers, friends and family, then avoidable accidents are drastically reduced.
Each week in June, The National Safety Council focuses on a specific theme. The 2013 weekly themes are:
- Week 1: Preventing Slips, Trips and Falls
- Week 2: Employee Wellness
- Week 3: Emergency Preparedness
- Week 4: Ergonomics

Preventing slips, trips and falls is easier in some industries than in others. Construction sites require greater safety precautions than the accounting industry. However, just because you may work in a relatively safe environment does not mean that you should neglect to keep your workplace safe. Floors, walkways and high-traffic areas should be kept free of water, cords, uneven surfaces, broken stairs, or small items to avoid slips, trips or falls.
If you have been injured in a workplace or public location, Bryan Caulfield will be your advocate as your accident lawyer. Contact Bryan today for a free consultation.
